Premium Surf Safaris

Skunk Aversion surf safaris is a surf tours company owned and run by two local South African brothers, and highly experienced surfers. We provide a unique, authentic and exclusive experience, offering premium surf safaris tailored to your needs. We do this by selecting the finest lodgings in the most magnificent locations along our wave rich coast. And the waves? In truth, the waves absolutely pump and we’re confident they’re up there with the best in the world, but it’s neither simple nor straightforward scoring them. You’ve got to know where you’re going and what you’re doing. This isn’t Bali after all, and there ain’t no road signs to Uluwatu. Luckily for you, that’s where we come in. Two men with more than thirty years of combined experience surfing and exploring this glorious stretch of coast and a wealth of knowledge fashioned to finding its premiere waves. With a plethora of surf-spots up our sleeve, both known and secret, and an in-depth understanding of the local charts, we can put you on the best waves with the fewest people.

FAQs
What can I expect from a typical day?
Early morning surfs to take advantage of the land breeze, breakfast, mid-morning surf, lunch, afternoon nap, then relax and play cards, or get back in the water if the waves are still on. For dinner, if we’re not at home getting treated by our local chef, then we’re out at one of our favourite joints in town.
How well do I need to surf?
Our waves cater primarily to intermediate and advanced surfers so it’s important that you can paddle yourself out, get up and go across consistently.
When should I come?
The waves here fire from the beginning of May right through to the middle of August. In May, the first winter swells combine with early morning offshore winds to deliver groomed, 3-4 foot conditions. As June approaches, the swells increase in size and regularity, delivering pumping surf. This steady stream of swell continues through to the middle of August when the swells slow down and the early morning offshores blow less frequently.
Will there be other people on the Surf Safari?
Here at Skunk Aversion we value exclusivity, and we know that a surf trip is best when you can set the tone and control the vibe. That’s why we’ve decided to offer you and your crew exclusive access to our tour. No nonsense, No unwanted wave-hogs, just you and yours enjoying cooking waves in Africa.
How many surfers can I bring?
Southern Africa offers uncrowded perfection, and the tight-knit local communities that call it home are keen to keep it that way. Out of respect for these surfers, we limit our safaris to a maximum of six people. If you prefer a smaller crew, that’s cool too!
How long are the trips?
We’re here to make this work for you, and while we offer suggested packages, we’re more than willing to tailor the length and itinerary of your trip to suit your needs.
How do I get there?
Book a flight to Maputo International Airport, Mozambique and we’ll pick you up and take you straight to the villa. Alternatively, Fly into King Shaka International Airport, Durban, South Africa and we’ll make the five hour drive up to Mozambique together.
