Empty African Point-Break

There aren’t many places in the world that offer sunny skies and 22-degree temperatures in the heart of winter. Add offshore winds, an abundance of swell, and a collection of sand-bottomed point-breaks, and you’ve got a winning formula.
With winter underway, the usual uptick in swell began, sending southerly swells our way. On the day captured above, a fourteen second, two-meter swell combined with light offshore winds. We knew we’d be in for a treat – heading down the coast to one of the many great waves in the area. After a brief glance at some well-known setups, we headed around the corner, in the hopes of finding empty waves.
Three-foot peelers ran down the point, unspoilt. The wave, breaking behind a shelf of rocks, offered up draining tubes before opening up and allowing for a series of turns. We wasted no time, jumping in the water as quickly as we could. What followed was an incredibly fun session filled with hollow barrels and inviting sections. We surfed alone for over two hours, finally floating in when our bodies were spent. We hope you enjoy this envy-inducing video of us scoring an empty African point-break.
