Empty, A-Frame Barrels in Africa

When we think of our dream session, A-frame peaks, offshore winds and an empty lineup spring to mind. Oh, and frighteningly hollow tubes of course. Sadly, this mouthwatering concoction is incredibly rare. If there are A-frames, then it’s not offshore, and when it’s barreling, the A-frames disappear. On the rare occasion that everything comes together, every man and his dog are out there getting his fix.
So you’ll understand our excitement when we pulled up to our version of perfection, with no one in sight. 3-foot peaks detonated on immaculate sandbars. Offshore winds groomed the incoming A-frames, intensifying the barrels. Just big enough to get properly tubed, but small enough to feel comfortable sending it on the sets.
These opportunities – to score epic waves all alone – are abundant in Africa – one of the many reasons we love living on this incredible continent.
We’re pretty sure we found every surfers dream wave, and we got to surf it all alone. We hope you find it as enticing as we do!
